Look at a reference once, and never again.

The Process

Practice: Non-judgement, freedom, color, form, and short term memory loss.

Reference: Inspired by the Statue of Ankhemtenenet. His facial expression and hand placement really entranced me. The captivating (currently noseless) sculpture made of red quartzite is from Third Intermediate Period–Late Period taken from the Memphis/Mit Rahina region. This Egyptian statue was created in 721–525 BCE and feels really personal to me. Something about this statue and it’s creator speaks to the humanity of Ankhemtenenet. The Metropolitan Museum of Art believes he, Ankhemtenenet may have been a high-ranking official or priest. There is a magnetism captured in this sculpture I felt drawn to.

The concept: What will happen if I only look at the reference once with short term memory loss?
